Use of PRP as empty nose syndrome therapy

Use of PRP as empty nose syndrome therapy: common question

The empty nose syndrome (ENS) is a pathology that is determined following a surgical procedure for removal of the turbinates too aggressive (by resection or cauterization) and which produces in that suffers various disorders such as nose always dry and bad odors in the nostrils.

What are platelet growing factors and why they are used in the treatment of the ENS ?

The platelet growing factors are substances that naturally stimulate the regrowth and tissue regeneration: are the molecules that commonly allow to repair a wound

How they are produced and how they are administered to the patient?

The platelet growing factors are obtained by a small blood sample of the patient who is subjected to centrifugation and filtration so as to realize a fluid to the other of concentration for platelets (called platelet rich plasma or PRP).

The PRP is conveyed in the areas to be treated through simple injections.

Where PRP is injected?

Platelet rich plasma is injected on turbinate, nasal septum, midde meatus, inferior and middle turbinates, lateral nasal wall

What is the percentage of successful treatment?

There is no sure percentage or standard data of success because is a individual matter.
Some patients respond well to the treatment of others is not successful is a tipical “works or fails" method.

How often is the treatment performed?

Every 3 months in the first year, then once or twice a year

The reatment of empty nose syndrome by using platelet growing factors can improve sinusitis?

No, this therapy doesn't provide any improvement for sinusitis

In case of not more infalted turbinates, this therapy for the empty nose syndrome can give some results?

Yes, but only in some cases

Can PRP increase the turbinate volume?

Yes, but only in some patients.

The patient before treatment must perform some procedure or take drugs?
No, this ENS treatment does not provide any form of preparation.

What is the cost of treatment?
600 Euros for each treatment (obviously if after the first treatment, there are no satisfactory results the patient is not subjected to the other 2.
